Just as we learn to speak and read, we also learn to think. But do we think well? Are we self critical, aware of our prejudices, generalizations and assumptions when we produce an argument. Do we reason logically?

Do we as teachers promote higher order thinking?

Kate Kennedy White founded the Kinder Philosophy Institute to share with other teachers the practice of philosophic inquiry within the classroom. Philosophy is a proven methodology to promote critical thinking and higher order thinking.

She is a practicing philosophy teacher for K-6, a teacher/librarian, accredited teacher trainer and an award winning filmmaker.

Kate is a graduate from the University of Adelaide (Arts) and Western Teachers College, South Australia with postgraduate studies in Ethics from the University of NSW. Her specialised qualifications in Philosophy with Children include an intensive course in The Art of Questioning at the Institute of Philosophy Practice in France with Dr Oscar Brenifier and a post graduate residency at the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy with Children (IAPC) at Montclair University, New Jersey with Dr David Kennedy and Dr Maughn Gregory.

She has delivered workshops at the Australasian Philosophy Conference at Notre Dame University Sydney, the International Council of Philosophical inquiry with Children Conference South Africa and the Institute of Philosophy Practice in France.

She is an executive member of the Philosophy in Schools Association NSW and the Federation of Associations for Philosophy in Schools Australasia and a member of the editorial board for The Australasian Journal of Philosophy in Schools.
