Leslie Maniotes is a dedicated educational specialist. Leslie's experience spans the full spectrum; from classroom teaching and consulting to in depth research and a doctorate. She is passionate about improving educational outcomes and student experience, this challenging work often requires re-envisioning what happens in schools in order to meet the needs of students and staff in the digital age.

Leslie's expertise is centered on inquiry learning and instructional design. Leslie works with educators around globe to build professional knowledge and skill in Guided Inquiry (see Leslie's books and resources below).

Leslie is based in Denver, Colorado and is an educational leader within Denver Public Schools. Leslie was a classroom teacher for eleven years before working as a Teacher Effectiveness coach and a K–12 literacy specialist in rural and urban Title 1 schools (schools with a large low-income student population that are eligible to receive additional government funding). She received her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado, and her master's degree in reading K-12 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Leslie's passion is helping educational leaders provide systems and supports for Guided Inquiry in K-12 districts and schools.

Recently much of Leslie's work has been in the area of advising leadership teams to start, build, and sustain Guided Inquiry practice in their districts and schools. Each district or school has a different set of challenges. Leslie works with leaders to recognise the opportunities and potential for inquiry in their context as well as overcome any roadblocks to success.

Leslie delivers high quality, engaging and relevant professional development to a broad range of educational professionals. Her institutes and workshops are designed to shift educators perspectives to see learning through the students lens. Participants examine the research to understand how students learn though inquiry based techniques. Then, examine ways in which these principles can be applied to the information to knowledge journey, ensuring students engage in deep learning. Through her workshops and institutes participants build understanding and competence in Guided Inquiry practices and application. The outcome of these workshops have participants creating and designing powerful units of study, or systems, and structures for inquiry learning in their schools.

Leslie's Workshops

Leslie tailors professional learning experiences for each event to cater to specific contexts, learning goals and desired outcomes.

She has conducted workshops for educational leaders, teachers, coaches, librarians, tech teachers, curriculum coordinators and teaching teams who are interested in using inquiry learning to increase student engagement and depth of learning in their school.

The Guided Inquiry Design process supports and enhances student engagement and deeper learning within each of the following contexts:
